Christmas 2012: Batman Returns. The Bat. The Cat. The Penguin. The Video Game. The Half-Assed Review.
Batman Returns is a 3-Dimensionally challenged sidescrolling beat ‘em up where players assume the role of the Dark Knight as he attempts to murder hundreds of criminals before the Penguin steals Christmas. This is one of those games that as a kid I wanted more than anything but since I was never given Nintendo related gifts outside of my and the lord daddy Jesus’ birthday, it was one of many to slip through the cracks. Well I finally got my hands on a copy not long ago, played it and now I’m writing a little something.

Some nerd over at the Official Nintendo Magazine’s website slapped these bad boys together just in time for the big day. Of course you’ve got yourself the classic Christmas tree pictured above but there’s also a really impressively made snowman:
In the not-too-distant past, Matt posted a Christmas album that he compiled consisting of wintry/Christmas-y songs from video games, or remixes of such. For the benefit of the lazy readers/those who don’t like all the downloadin’, today I scoured YouTube and found all but one of the tracks he listed (Winter Bros.) and compiled them into a YouTube playlist. Click all of these words or the ones below to get your yule on.
Drawn by yours truly! I’m kicking around ideas for further Mario-holiday characters; Yoshi as Rudolph, Peach as Mrs. Claus, Wario as Scrooge, etc. Whether I’ll actually get them drawn and posted in time for Christmas is another story, but maybe!
As always, with Christmas comes a ton of new games to play which means that we here at the List will be taking some much deserved time off to finally sink our teeth into them. The next couple of weeks will be spent burning through Nintendo’s most recent offerings in a sugar cookie fueled, drunken haze. Until next month, we wish all of our loyal readers a wonderful holiday. We hope checking out our precious little site for the past year has been as much fun to read as it has been for us to write. See you in 2011 <3
For as much as I love both video games and Christmas, I can’t believe the idea of making a playlist compiled of mp3’s from some of my favorite Nintendo games never crossed my mind. But thanks to the brilliance of Billy Chilly, a poster on the messageboards over at Nintendorks.com (this site’s sluttier, older sister), the holidays this year just became a lot more enjoyable.
