Thursday’s Download: Rayman GBC Hits 3DS VC.

Meh.

In case you haven’t had your fill with Rayman lately, the 3DS Virtual Console continues to show signs of life with today’s update. Rayman for the Game Boy Color is now available at the low, low price of $4.99. About 25 dollars less than what I threw at this thing when it originally came out at the turn of the century. It’s a decent enough portable platformer but for those of you who have yet to check out this franchise, I’d suggest downloading the DSi remake of the original Playstation entry or holding off until Origins for 3DS hits store shelves this coming Tuesday.

Or hell, get all three. See if I care.

In other download news, Metal Slug 3 hits the Wii Virtual Console. I’d love to display an ounce of enthusiasm about this news but honestly, anyone that even remotely loves the Metal Slug games should be ashamed if they don’t already own the Anthology disc for Wii. Especially since the price to download this one game comes out to 900 Wii points ($9.00) which is exactly how much the compilation of all seven games in the series starts at used on Amazon.

Aren’t you so happy we’re here to tell you these things?

There are a couple of other titles available today but I barely cared enough to write about these two so feel free to read more courtesy of our good buddies at Nintendo Life.

The sole advantage of downloading the Metal Slug games off of the Virtual Console is Classic Controller support. For whatever reason the Anthology only has a bunch of unusable Wii Remote + Nunchuk configurations and Gamecube controller support, and on top of that you have to use the stick with the Gamecube controller- no d-pad recognition.

(I don’t know how well the various Gamecube arcade sticks work (or not) with the Anthology.)

The classic controller thing occurred to me. Honestly the Wii-mote by itself works just fine but of course the option is always appreciated. This is why you should be writing these things.
