Punch-Out!! Lands on the 3DS eShop and I Couldn’t Care Less.
And you know why? Because this NES classic is one of my favorite games of all time and Nintendo didn’t have the goddamn decency to give it the 3D classics treatment. Let’s see, so far Excitebike, Twinbee, Xevious, Kirby’s Adventure and Urban Champion (!?) make up the entire list of games available with a fancy new coat of 3D paint. WHAT THE HELL KIND OF SHIT SELECTION IS THAT!?
I seriously wouldn’t care so much had I not heard about Punch-Out!! being one of a handful of retro games on display a couple of E3’s ago to show off the 3D effect. The game seems like a such a natural fit I couldn’t wait to be able to have my head cracked open by Soda Popinski in 3 dimensions while riding the train but noooo. Looks like we’re stuck with just a straight port.
Which obviously is better than nothing, but still. I’ve got this game in it’s original cartridge form and on the Wii through that Virtual Console. We couldn’t have dolled this thing up a bit for the 3DS?
Dammit, Nintendo. I’m going to go home and rage-download this thing tonight just to spite you.

The 3D Classics line doesn’t seem to be a huge priority for Nintendo, which is a bummer. I thought I read somewhere they had mentioned converting the games to 3D was tougher than they anticipated, I think especially concerning Xevious. If any NES game is made for the 3D Classics series, it’s Punch-Out!! So it’s even stranger that Kid Icarus is getting the 3D Classics make-over, but not Punch-Out!!
I’ll keep my fingers crossed that maybe they’re making an original Punch-Out!! title for the system.
Oh hell yeah! Punch-Out!! for Wii was a dreamboat, I’d love more like it.
