America’s Next Top Xenoblade Boxart
Nintendo is letting us, the unwashed masses pick the boxart for Xenoblade Chronicles. Now before you get all excited and start drawing wieners in Microsoft Paint, Nintendo’s not taking submissions. Instead, we get to choose from one of four proposed boxart designs. Read on for a peek at all four designs, and how to cast your vote!

Boxart 1

I dig this one. I like seeing a variety of (I’m assuming) important characters and the landscape is simultaneously very pretty and very alien. On the other hand, it kind of looks like (terrific) concept art, and they’re all facing the same direction, looking at nothing in particular? Nice, but not the best.
Boxart 2

Yikes. This one is unfortunate. The color palette is gross, and the setting looks like something out of an old Halo knock-off. Honestly, it might just be the big green flare taking center-stage and half-assed looking fog that kills this one for me. I can see what they were going for, but it doesn’t quite work.
Boxart 3

This one is really eye-catching, definitely unorthodox for a game box. We finally get up close and personal with the game’s protagonist, but instead of a generic, sword-swinging attack pose, he’s chillaxing under a tree. Like the first art, this one does a good job of mixing familiar, pretty scenery with a strange, alien landscape. While it’s a cool piece of art, it also paints a picture of something a lot more laid-back than a sweeping sci-fantasy epic, it almost looks like some kind of sci-fi Animal Crossing. My second favorite boxart either way though.
Boxart 4

There we go! The fourth piece of art has it all. We have a mid-range shot of the main protagonist, who’s looking skyward at the weird, beautiful spacescape ahead of him, while being rooted in an earthy, peaceful meadow. Sweeping scope, gorgeous array of colors, and in one simple image it manages to convey what a huge, awesome adventure lies ahead. Number four for me, please!

I am actually quite surprised this is happening. We might actually get a game with good box art in America for once!
This is going to be the best game!
Garret, is there a favorite out of the four that you’re pulling for?
I actually like number 1 the best, then probably number 4. Number 3 is too “generic japanesey” with the pose, and number 2 is a little too vague, although it would be a good cover for a Team Ico game.
