As always, with Christmas comes a ton of new games to play which means that we here at the List will be taking some much deserved time off to finally sink our teeth into them. The next couple of weeks will be spent burning through Nintendo’s most recent offerings in a sugar cookie fueled, drunken haze. Until next month, we wish all of our loyal readers a wonderful holiday. We hope checking out our precious little site for the past year has been as much fun to read as it has been for us to write. See you in 2011 <3

So here’s a heads up for those of you who can’t wait to line up outside the movie theater this week to toss ten bucks at Tron: Legacy (sequel to Disney’s 1982 cult flick). Did you know that this isn’t the first time the light cycle filled universe has been revisited? Yep, the franchise has also flirted around in a couple of other mediums. Of course there were the 2 arcade classics that Midway cranked out to soak up kid’s quarters back in the early eighties:

It’s no secret that here at the list we’re all big fans of legendary game designer, Mr. Shigeru Miyamoto. So when we come across a piece of work like the massive article that was just published in The New Yorker, we get all riled up. Despite the fact that we already know pretty much every last detail of the dude’s life (including which hand he jerks it with), what can we say? We just love reading about him.

For as much as I love both video games and Christmas, I can’t believe the idea of making a playlist compiled of mp3’s from some of my favorite Nintendo games never crossed my mind. But thanks to the brilliance of Billy Chilly, a poster on the messageboards over at Nintendorks.com (this site’s sluttier, older sister), the holidays this year just became a lot more enjoyable.

Well, here’s a Friday night video that will last for twenty four hours. Our old friends over at Hardmode.org are at it again by hosting their third marathon of playing games until they stink for the sake of charity. Going live tonight at 8pm, they’ll be burning through four titles featuring “strong female characters” that aren’t simply known for being scantily clad and/or um…other reasons. The games featured will be Super Metroid (SNES), Beyond Good and Evil (I’m assuming the GameCube version), and a couple of others that weren’t made for Nintendo systems and thus, I know jack shit about. I’ll be tuning in on and off throughout to watch these guys embarrass themselves for a good cause and offer my sage like advice through their little chat system. If you happen to get bored and feel like offering up a little cash during this blessed season, then I’d say there are a lot less dorky ways you could do it, but it wouldn’t be as much fun.
The charity starts today, December 3rd at 8pm CST and will run until tomorrow night or until one of them snaps and murders the others. Click this link if you are a good person and have some extra money that you don’t need.

…but shock of shocks, I broke down and bought Donkey Kong Country Returns the second I came across it. Believe me, I don’t regret this at all…the problem is that I can’t really justify another video game purchase for myself what with the holidays and all, so that means old round ears is just gonna have to wait a little while. But y’know what? That’s actually fine by me because DK has blown my fucking mind and I can’t really see myself being pulled away to play any other game for the foreseeable future anyway.
